Users feel supported only in the short term, focused on specific parts of the employee journey such as company events. This results in limited engagement and a lack of support throughout the entire employee journey. At the start of the project, the support experience was fragmented and did not consistently foster long-term engagement or growth for employees.

UX/UI Design, Mobile Design, User Research

Competitor analysis reveals common UX patterns, colors, and onboarding approaches.

The market offers a wide range of employee apps. As part of my research, I conducted a competitor analysis to understand common patterns and identify opportunities for improvement in the native app. The analysis focused on both visual design and functional concepts.

Key findings showed that most apps use progress indicators and outcome visualization to support task completion. Blue is a frequently used primary color, and many apps emphasize a friendly and welcoming introduction to the organization.

Understanding the target audience.

To better understand the target audience, I created personas based on desk and field research. This method helped summarize common patterns in needs and behavior, guiding design decisions for the app. The research revealed that employees consider personal development essential for feeling supported, which informed features such as progress tracking and personalized development tasks.

User Journey insights: identifying gaps in user Involvement.

I created a user journey to map the current employee process and identify gaps where the experience falls short in engagement. This method allowed me to visualize touchpoints and interactions across the entire journey and see where support and involvement are lacking.

Key insights included:

  • Employees are minimally involved in pre-activity engagement.

  • Onboarding includes chat and task lists, but users expressed a need for clear progress tracking.

  • Post-experience touchpoints such as feedback, tasks, colleague chat, and company news exist. However, they do not support individual professional growth.

Mapping the user flow and

app structure.

To understand the current app structure and content, I reviewed its existing features. I then created a site map to organize screens in a clear, user-friendly flow. Research insights were integrated into the structure to enhance navigation and overall user experience.

Translated sitemap into sketches to explore layout and flow.

Based on the sitemap, I explored the app’s visual structure. I created hand-drawn sketches of key screens to experiment with layout, functionality, and user flow. This approach allowed me to test ideas quickly before developing more detailed wireframes.

Personal development app enhances the full employee journey.

The app focuses on personal development and features a timeline that supports the entire employee journey. Research revealed that personal growth was the top priority for users, guiding the design of key features. The home screen provides access to courses and tasks, while the timeline and chat functions enhance engagement across the organization. Together with the research, the final product lays a solid foundation for further app development.

I designed an app that focuses on personal development, integrated with a timeline feature that supports the entire employee journey.

‍ During my research, personal development emerged as the top priority. To highlight this within the app, I implemented various features.

At the center of the app, users can access key aspects of their personal growth, such as courses and tasks. Additionally, the timeline and chat functions enhance user engagement within the company.  The final product, along with my research, served as a foundation for further app development.
